Bush is out of control and MUST be stopped

OK, this is either me procrastinating from doing an assignment or my mind really telling me that I have to do something now.
I have a great friend at work known as Cocko. He has lived a bit and works harder than most doing everything asked of him. Cocko is a true legend in my mind with a great attitude to life. One habit of his is arriving at work in the morning and stating “The world’s fucked”. This is kind of amusing and he typically has a half valid point to explain why.
I don’t need his advice today however as I can state that without a single doubt “The World is Fucked”. The reason- George Bush, his dictatorship and a congress to piss weak to put the Earth first.
Perhaps you are unaware of what is going on. Good luck to you. Half of me wishes I was naive as well, but alas I am a geek, with the constant desire for input shared with my pale friends.
Here is some reading from very well respected writers to give you some background:
1. “We are now officially living in a dictatorship” from Science Blogs
http://scienceblogs.com/clock/2006/09/we_are_now_officially_living_i.php
2. One of my personal favourite authors and just a nice guy. John Scalzi
http://www.scalzi.com/whatever/004498.html
3. Buzzflash
http://www.buzzflash.com/articles/editorials/100
4. Bush Seeks Immunity for Violating War Crimes Act
http://www.commondreams.org/views06/0923-22.htm
There are hundreds of others, just do a search for bush AND dictatorship.
This is really scary folks. Bush is putting himself in a position of complete power over the US, and the world. You can now be imprisoned indefinitely without evidence or charge because he says so. Yes, and I mean you, whether you live in the US or not.
As Scalzi says “I’m tired of being led by moral cowards. I want better for myself, and for my country.”
and in my case I want better for everyone. Kids, future generations, refugees- everyone. This is just crap.
Bush must be impeached, or anyone else must get into his office. Any other right wing loony Republican would do. Anyone but this lunatic.
Where the hell are the left?

AdelaideNow… Stark warning on SA climate
I can’t believe that an Australian Premier has actually stated that climate change exists. This is a news article about what South Australia is likely to expect during the next century and is quite frankly scary. It includes a picture of my CFS (local volunteer fire service) captain Richard Coombe because one result of climate change is going to be increased wildfire activity.

Finally found out why I am an athiest

Here is an interesting article from Effect Measure (a scienceblogs.com writer who concentrates on public health). The article is mainly a discussion about the Pope’s recent speech. He obviously upset lots of the Muslim world, but also had a go at the atheists. Of course the pope is infallible so apparently I am an atheist because I am afraid of god:
“Only this can free us from being afraid of God — which is ultimately at the root of modern atheism,” -The Pope
hmmm, I feel much better now knowing that the reason I don’t believe in god is because I am afraid of something I don’t believe in.
Oh, and just because I am currently writing an assignment and need an excuse to procrastinate, here is a quote from one of the comments:
“This is all just naked tribalism of the worst sort. If a human being had a condition that made one part of its body kill another part because it was a different tissue, we’d treat it like a disease.
Organized religion is a disease”

If the Holocaust and Nazi regime never happened (ie humanity did not know just how far people are willing to go), would the current US empire be doing the same thing?
Bush, his government and their allies are happy to torture, restrain without charge, kill for convenience, ignore international law, ignore constitutions, invade countries and empower like minded entities to do the same.
I personally feel that if we as the world population had never experienced the horrors of the 30’s and 40’s and therefore were naive to the possibility, that the US would be trying to force similar power over the world right now. Bush would already be a dictator, and the middle east would be experiencing genocide.

Slide Rule Porn

Mark C. Chu-Carroll is competing in a Geekoff with some other highly qualified people over at http://scienceblogs.com. Romana was kind enough to send me a nice little article about slide rules explained by a true master of math education on his Good Math, Bad Math blog. He even has the same K&E rule as I recently bought on Ebay in it’s beautiful orange leather case. The blog entry is worth reading to get your head around some slide rule basics and explains how slide rules make math tactile. That is you get more of a feeling for what is going on.
Chu-Carroll even uses stack based calculators, so you know he is a smart man :)
Just in case he reads this though … What no Intercal?
Here are some photos of my new (well made in 1956) toy

The Nerd test inspired me to take the geek test one more time to see how things are tracking. Hmmm I don’t think working for public service in a completely non computer based job is helping. This is more serious than I thought :)

I am fairly happy that this result isn’t as high as my geek score. Although the fact I found the link to it on an article about slide rules is a little disturbing :)
