I am sick of polititions dragging innocent people to harm. I am Australian, something I used to be proud of. I love this country more than most people and fortunately manage to get out and see a little of it. I am however getting frustrated at how Australian’s no logner have a choice in this US centric world. We vote for the standing conservatives. I have no idea why, but we do. They in turn do whatever the USA governement tells them to do and I just follow along, pretending that my $25 / month does Amnesty some good, or foolishly hoping that my Greens Party membership will one day influence anyone.
I am pissed off at how the media ignores attrocities in Africa, glosses over and romanticises Middle East violence and yet get all serious about a handful of Australian’s getting blown up in Bali. How dare an Australian life be worth more than one hundred thousand Sudanese. I feel for the people involved in the latest Bali bombings, I really do. I am a parent, a brother, a son, a friend and a husband myself. Ofcourse I sypathise, and am grateful that empathy is a step away. However, I also consider one human life an equal of another.
Worse of all, I am appalled at my own lack of feelings for this latest bombing. I can’t stand the fact that mass violence has become so main stream that the headlines are only worth a brief glance. How can we become a generation that just gets back to work when confronted by distant atrocities. Please world, vote out the current crop of selfish, shallow right wingers and sort this out. It will take years to turn this around. We can’t just walk out of Iraq now, we have a debt to pay for destroying their infrastructure. We must complete the job somehow, but perhaps next time, we can have a good think about the future and consequences before we invade the next country.
